Community Engagement Volunteer 

An Engagement Volunteer plays a key role in assisting Healthwatch Hull by being the eyes and ears of Healthwatch in local communities. Healthwatch Hull relies on the experiences of service users, their families and carers to help identify poor quality services, gaps in provision and good practice. Our Engagement Volunteers help collect this information, especially from those people who are seldom heard, as well as promoting the services of Healthwatch Hull within these groups.  

Key Tasks 

  • Act as a link between Healthwatch Hull and local communities 
  • Promote Healthwatch Hull and the work we do at community engagement events and at local places of interest 
  • Talk to and gather information from local people on their experiences of Health and Social Care within Hull 
  • Conduct surveys and consultations with local communities 
  • Identify opportunities within your local community to promote the work of Healthwatch Hull 
  • Identify local and national news stories of interest around Health and Social Care and bring them to the attention of Healthwatch Hull 
  • Seek out mentions of Healthwatch Hull in local press and social media 
  • Promote Healthwatch Hull’s social media platforms 
  • Undertake training appropriate to the role

Enter and View Authorised Representative 

An Authorised Representative plays a key role in assisting Healthwatch Hull in their statutory function of Enter and View visits.  

The purpose of an Enter and View visit is an opportunity for our Authorised Representatives: 

  • To see and hear how health and social care services are provided 
  • To collect the views of service users, relatives and carers
  • To observe the nature and quality of services
  • To report findings and associated recommendations.  

Key Tasks 

  • Participate in pre-visit planning meetings 
  • Speak with service users, relatives, carers and staff about their experience of the service 
  • Observe the physical environment of the communal areas, noting areas of concern or good practice 
  • Observe the delivery of service within communal areas e.g. activities, meal time and interaction between staff and service users 
  • Make notes during the visit to contribute towards the Enter and View visit report 
  • Suggest recommendations that could improve the experience of service users 
  • Conduct surveys and questionnaires about peoples experiences of Health and Social Care 
  • Undertake training appropriate to the role
